EXCLUSIVE: New brewery coming to Cincinnati’s West Side

I had an email in my inbox today letting me know about a new brewery opening on Cincinnati’s West Side called Tap and Screw Brewery. It will be located in the former Tom and Jerry’s Sports Bar on Crookshank Road just off Glenway Avenue (5060 Crookshank Road). According to their website and Facebook, initial plans call for an all electric brewery with a 7bbl brewhouse and three 15bbl fermenters plus a 15bbl brite tank.

It seems they have already applied for all brewing permits as they believe they may be able to have beer poured in September. The current wait for brewing licenses is approximately four months. They also state that they will carry a full liquor license to serve all types of alcohol. Based on the size, space, and liquor license I’m thinking this may be more a of a brewpub operation. Although, they state that they have plenty of room to store half barrels so perhaps they will consider distribution at some point.

The name apparently hails from Cincinnati Milacron’s original name, Cincinnati Screw and Tap Company – plus, corkscrews being symbolic of Ohio’s wineries.

This is the second brewery in planning for the West Side with Bridgetown Brew Works having completed a crowdfunding round of financing a couple of months ago. Bridgetown Brew Works appears to have found a location in Westwood to open their brewery but they may need some additional funding since their crowdfunding campaign fell short.

My initial impression is that this seems to be pretty well thought out so far with an emphasis on the operations side before marketing and hype. I’m working on getting in touch with the owners to fill-in the detail but I wanted to get this information out for now. Stay tuned and cross your fingers for another great Cincinnati brewery!
