Local Beer News Roundup – November 2014
I’ve got a variety of small pieces of news to share about things going on here in town, so get caught up in just a few minutes!
I told you about cans of Pure Fury coming soon and now the physical cans have actually arrived. Expect to see this in the wild soon. Additionally, Rhinegeist plans to introduce a couple of new beers in the coming weeks: Asterix Belgian Red Pale Ale and Andromeda Pale (Galaxy hops). They also just started pouring a hybrid tripel/IPA called Jacques.
Taft’s Ale House
With all the action going on with all the established breweries, don’t forget about all the quiet (and furious) work taking place at OTR’s Taft’s Ale House. They have equipment on the way to get beer flowing after the first of the year and it is shaping up to be the most beautiful brewery in town. It seems no expense is being spared and no detail left to chance. They are even tiling the fermentation room in Rookwood tile. Seriously. No poured concrete utilitarian operation here – it’s going to be first class all the way!
Lauren Hill Charity Beer and Dinner
The Cincinnati community continues to rally around Mt. St. Joe basketball player Lauren Hill to support her fight for cancer and to raise awareness for this awful form of the disease. MadTree has stepped in to brew a special “#22” beer to honor Lauren which will be served at a special charity buffet at Firehouse Grill on November 30th. From 2-8pm, $22 will get you a meal, a chance to sample this special beer, and you raise money for Lauren’s Fight for Cure.
Blank Slate Pour House
Dreams have come true for local beer lovers as Blank Slate just opened their brewery taproom. Now everyone has a guaranteed place to buy Blank Slate pints and growlers!
“Here we grow again” was the caption of this photo of two shiny new tanks being delivered to Cellar Dweller. They continue their regional growth with distribution by 17th Star in Columbus plus self-distribution in the Cincinnati area. They also just released their Quaff Bros collaboration, Grendel Mead. This is a bourbon barrel aged mead which is available at The Party Source for $20. Early reviews say it’s fantastic!
The Growler House
About 10 months after I first broke the news about a new growler shop coming to East Walnut Hills, they are ready to open! The first week will have all 30 handles packed with local beers and then you can expect to see regional and national brands in the mix.
Tap and Screw Brewery
The West Side’s first brewery/brewpub is set to begin serving their own beers on December 11th. They plan to come out of the gate with Dr Kool IPA, Funnel Hat Kolsch, Irony Double Belgian, and Jacked Porter. At the same time they will introduce a new menu with all items produced in-house.
