Mikkeller – 19 – 96
Hop heads rejoice! The evil geniuses at Mikkeller have taken their rainbow series of single hopped beers and blended them together into a single super beer. The hop profile reads like a who’s who in the world of hops, notably dominated by the popular and hard to find Simcoe, Citra, and Amarillo.
Sorachi Ace 10.71%
Mt. Hood 1.43%
Super Galena 0.71%
Get all that?? It pours a cloudy dark copper color with a fluffy off-white head, serious lacing. Your nose is immediately hit with a pungent floral and citrus blast from the top of the batting order. This mash up of hops could have turned out messy but all the flavors combine to make a smooth hop-forward flavor that isn’t overly bitter but gives enough bite to keep your taste buds in check. The body is more like an Imperial IPA and the ABV comes in 6.8% that pushes the style’s boundary.
As i got further down my glass I picked up some different flavors which was an unexpected bonus. After this sampling, I will definitely make a concentrated effort to go around the rainbow with all the single hop varieties that make up this 19. Another Mikkeller home run!
