The Wurst Beer You’ve Ever Drank

See what I did there? Yes, I’m talking about a Cincinnati brewery that has made a sausage-inspired beer. Naturally, this comes out of left field from the brains at Blank Slate Brewing company. They’ve never been strangers to experimental beers and this is no exception.

Eat beer like a German

Most local breweries have put out some sort of fall fest beer. From faux Oktoberfests to the real deal traditional German lager.

What pairs perfect with an Oktoberfest beer? A nice German sausage!

Accordingly, Blank Slate set out to make a beer that would pair well with a variety of seasonal foods. With ‘Turn For the Wurst’ they combined a traditional Oktoberfest base beer with some rye and smoked malt. Next, it was infused with fennel seed, fresh sage, carraway seed and black pepper. Hungry yet?

The idea is that it smells and tastes like a sausage without any pigs being harmed in the process. The beer comes in at a reasonable 6% ABV so it should mix well even with a heavier meal.

Blank Slate owner Scott LaFollette admits the beer is, “Probably not something that anyone will want to chug pints of, but it has a lot of really interesting food pairing possibilities — which is what we were going for.”

Personally, I’m dying to try this one. Only 7bbls were brewed so it won’t be available widely. It went to the distributor already so it should show up soon. I wil try to pass along any news on who is pouring on my Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Taproom Update

The Blank Slate taproom is still steadily under construction and some inspections have passed. There aren’t any firm opening dates just yet but progress is being made.
